Figure of a Peasant Woman
Original Hand Signed Pastel Drawing on paper
Paper Size: 62 x 40.5 cm / 24.4 x 15.9 in
This amazing pastel drawing by the French Impressionist artist Pissarro is one of the galleries most recent acquisitions and is on display in our gallery in Hampstead at the moment. This stunning work is simplistic yet incredibly striking. With her bright blue skirt and yellow bonnet, this peasant woman has been transformed into a soft and sensuous figure, with rosy cheeks and gentle pastel strokes to help emphasize the naturalistic beauty of the figure. The rapid pastel work also helps to highlight the idea of the woman being captured instantaneously, in a fluid motion and caught unawares going about her daily chores.
